1000 Days Campaign

Mission:

To establish a birth center in Queens, NY that serves as a model of comprehensive, safe, and evidence-based care—setting a new standard of support for new and growing families.

Vision:

Our vision is a midwifery-led birth center that reflects the diversity of Queens—grounded in cultural humility and accessible to all. We aim to create a comprehensive community hub where families receive the wraparound services they deserve, reducing barriers to care. Together, we are building a future where every family has access to safe, local, and empowering birth and family care options.

Core Values: C.H.A.N.G.E.

Community

We start and end with community in mind. We are a space where families, providers, and partners come together to share resources, build trust, and grow together. Rooted in participation, we show up as neighbors and partners, cultivating relationships and building each other’s village so all families can thrive.

Humility

We lead with humility acknowledging that every family, provider, and community member brings valuable knowledge and experience to the table. We listen first, learn continuously, and recognize that true care grows from mutual respect. By honoring lived experiences and diverse perspectives, we stay grounded in the understanding that our work is not about leading from above, but walking beside families as partners in their care and healing.

Advocacy

We champion birth and family equity at every level - local, state, and national. We advocate for access to midwifery-led, community-rooted care and for the rights of all families, whether birthing at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital.  Our advocacy extends beyond birth. We stand beside families through every outcome those who experience loss, survive near misses, face infertility, choose adoption, or foster with love. We address the social and economic factors that shape family well-being and work to ensure every family receives care, compassion, and community throughout their journey.

Nurture

Our care extends beyond the clinical. We nurture through compassion, cultural understanding, and connection Supporting the emotional, spiritual, and social needs that sustain families long after birth. In every interaction, we plant seeds of trust, healing, and growth that strengthen families and help them thrive for generations to come.

Generational Wisdom

We honor your lineage and your legacy. We listen to the stories of our elders, draw strength from our ancestors, and face the realities of raising children in today’s world where families navigate complex systems, shifting cultures, and daily challenges in pursuit of thriving.  By bridging the wisdom of the past with the truths of the present, we make an equitable future more accessible. Every generation belongs here to learn, to teach, to heal, and to grow together.

Excellence

We deliver care grounded in positive patient experience, equity, and evidence. Excellence means holding ourselves to rigorous, evidence-based standards while centering the lived experiences and voices of the families we serve. We strive for birth justice by confronting inequities and dismantling systemic barriers within healthcare.  We believe education is the foundation of empowerment. Through training, mentorship, and community learning, we equip professionals and families alike with the knowledge to make informed, confident, and compassionate choices.

1000 Days Campaign

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step" - Lao Tzu

The 1000 Days Campaign is our bold community effort to open the first freestanding, midwifery-led birth and wellness center in Queens, New York, a place where every family has access to safe, respectful, and culturally grounded care.

Why 1000 days?

The first 1,000 days from conception to a child’s second birthday are the foundation for lifelong health, learning, and well-being. These early days shape who we become, and they deserve the full strength of our community behind them.

Our vision goes even further. We believe that the next 1,000 days can also transform our borough supporting not only babies, but families, communities, systems, and support networks that last for generations.  A strong investment  today means greater impact tomorrow.

What should you know about Birth By Queens?

  • Our Vision

A birth center is a stand alone facility that provides holistic prenatal, birth, and postpartum services in the community. Our vision is for families to receive consistent welcoming, inclusive, and supportive care that is personalized, and tailored to families unique needs and experiences.

The birth center would not only address the immediate healthcare needs of families disproportionately effected by the maternal health crisis but also work to rebuild communities that have been set aside and broken by a system not designed for them and provide them with the resources that they need.

Our goal is not to fix the Black Maternal Health crisis but we hope to be an aid in the solution. The ultimate goal would be to improve maternal outcomes, reduce infant mortality rates, and empower families to thrive not just survive.

  • Our Lens

We have had the privilege of working alongside some of New York City's most dedicated doulas. We've witnessed firsthand the impact of mistreatment on families, and we've also seen the transformative effects when patients and clients are given autonomy. Simply put, magic happens. Families gain the confidence to trust themselves throughout the process, free from the fear of unnecessary interventions.

  • Our Goals

Birth will be just the beginning of the services we provide. We will offer a wide range of wraparound services that not only meet the needs of families but also align with their interests. We are deeply passionate about what matters to the community, and we strive to shape our offerings based on their values and preferences.

The added bonus will be it is close to home. Decreasing the number of families that are having births outside of the community.

Why do we need a birth center?

  • We love Diversity Queens is home to 2.4 million people , 140 + languages, but have access to only 1 birth option.

  • Personalized, Family-Centered Care
Care is tailored to the parent’s preferences and cultural needs, promoting dignity, autonomy, and shared decision-making.

  • Holistic and Continuous Support
Midwives offer physical, emotional, and educational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, fostering continuity of care.

  • Home-Like, Calming Environment
Birth centers provide a peaceful, non-clinical setting that helps reduce stress and supports natural labor progression.

  • Improved Birth Outcomes
Research shows birth center care is associated with fewer complications, higher breastfeeding rates, and greater satisfaction among birthing people.

  • Cost-Effective Care
Without unnecessary medical interventions, birth centers can significantly reduce the cost of childbirth while maintaining safety and quality.
